About the event
Tours are 60 minutes in duration
In the years following the War of 1812, the future City of Toronto (then known as York) was very much a "garrison town." The military personnel and their families who resided in Fort York represented a major part of the community's population. As part of HistoricTO programming, Fort York National Historic Site invites you to Awaken your senses and visit the restored barracks to understand daily life in a 19th century garrison community. Learn first-hand of the hardships and resilience of soldiers and their families. Hear some of the stories of those who served in the defence of York and Upper Canada. Visit a restored officer’s living quarters and mess establishment; experience the 1826 officers’ mess kitchen and hear about the fort's complex relationship with the Town of York
